Byodo-In Temple

The Byodo-In Temple, on the island of Oahu, is located in the Valley of the temples on the windward side of the island. It is a non denominational Buddhist temple and a replica of the 900 year old Buddhist place of worship near Kyoto Japan.

The temple displays a 3 meter, just under 10 feet, tall Lotus Buddha. The wooden Buddha is covered in gold and lacquer. Outside is the 3 ton peace bell cast in brass. On the grounds are two large Koi, Japanese Carp, ponds that total two acres or 8,000 square meters. Lush peaceful Japanese gardens surround the Koi ponds and the Ko'olau mountains provide a spectacular backdrop.

The temple grounds are also home to many peacocks that can be seen roaming the grounds as well. The Byodo-In Temple is visited by thousands of worshipers and visitors each year. The temple welcomes people of all faiths from around the world to participate in its traditions. The temple grounds are also used for weddings and office meetings.
